Looking for some great summer fun? Last year we purchased a pass to our local conservation areas and boy did we have fun!
It was only $95 plus tax for a 1 year pass. We visited the conservation area closest to us at least 3x every week last summer. It was terrific. I would get the car all packed with the sand toys, towels and lunches before the kids would get up and we were all set. Most mornings we had the whole beach to ourselves for the first hour or so we were there! The park had everything we were looking for-
*Close to home
*Snack bar for a "treat"
*A clean beach with sand raked every morning
*lots of shade, picnic tables and canoe rentals
*Trails for walking and biking
With our pass we also visited a local Pioneer Village a few times. We went to the Ice Cream Festival, the Maple Syrup Festival 2 weekends in a row(MMmm pancakes) and the fabulous Night before Christmas event that had horse drawn buggy rides with lanterns through the bush. It was beautiful.

I am so truly excited about this product! Finally a great alternative to DEET spray on repellent.
If you are from Canada you may have seen this innovative product on the Dragon's Den show recently(click here to watch it!)
As a mom I have mixed feelings about DEET repellent . Since we live near swampy areas I want to use some sort of repellent to keep the disease carrying mosquitoes away ( West Nile Virus ) But I have been reading all the cautions with DEET and wonder how safe it really is. Click here to read about the hazards of DEET.
We all know that mosquito bites are just plain itchy and can ruin a perfectly good summer's day. Well not anymore thanks to the Insect Defend Patch! The patch is approximately 5.5cmx5.5cm.
The way it works is you apply a patch to a hairless part of your body at least 2 hours before exposure to mosquitoes. The Vitamin B1 in the patch discreetly excretes from your pores and mosquitoes don't like the taste and won't bite.
-All Natural vitamin B1
-Contains no DEET
-Can be used on children as young as 1 yr old(apply to middle of back to avoid choking risk)
-Lasts up to 36 hours (24 hr timed release and 12 hour residual effect)
-The more you perspire the better it works!
Win a Family pack of insect defend patches. Open to Canada and USA. Contest ends 11:59PM June 28th/2010. If I have not heard back from the winner within 48hrs of sending a winning notification by email another winner will be chosen at random.

Hello sun, shorts and sandals! Back in January I posted 15 homemade beauty treatments. Here are a few of my favorites for feet, body and hair.
Check out Joe's new nail polish. I just purchased some on sale 3/$9.99. I was impressed at how long it stayed on and didn't chip for days. The light blue colour went on a bit streaky but you couldn't tell once it dried.

Have you heard of Wiglinton & Wenks? http://www.wiglingtonandwenks.com/ It's a whole new virtual world! Here is a You Tube Clip to view.
Adapted from a popular children story book series by John Bittleston, we have created The Travels of Wiglington and Wenks Virtual World as an enriching, immersive and safe online environment for kids to learn about the world through traveling to different factual and imaginative places, meeting famous people from the past, discovering mysteries and artifacts and making friends with children from different cultural backgrounds around the world.
We have carefully designed every aspect of the virtual world-from the graphics to the game mechanics-to make sure that it will be as fun as it is educational. Facts about history and geography which kids usually find boring in a normal class setting are presented in creative ways, backed up with a compelling story plot, motivating kids to learn while having fun and to explore further.
As parents, you can expect your child to learn about history, geography, famed landmarks, famous historical people, inventions, nature and wildlife among many others. And for the children, they can expect hours and hours of discovery and explorative fun.
Wiglington & Wenks is giving away 5 one month subscriptions. Contest Ends June 23rd open worldwide!

#1 Visit a pet store. If you are lucky enough to have a large pet store in your town you are all set! Little ones love to check out every animal and it's free (just remind them that you will not be bringing any new "friends" home)
#2 Visit a local trail. Walk, bike, push your stroller or pull your wagon. Throw in some binoculars for older ones to "spy" new animals, trees, flowers ect. Don't forget the snacks and re-usable water bottles!
#3 Visit a Festival. Check your local newspaper for free festivals in your area. Before you go decide on a dollar amount to give to each child ($5, $8) and head out. Don't forget to pack a lunch and snacks. It's not only healthier but it's cheaper too!
#4 Earn some Lay's chip trips! Lay's has an awesome promo on right now where you earn points to use towards fun trips in your area. We are looking forward to a possible stay at Great Wolf Lodge, visiting the Ripley's museum and doing some laser tag! Look for more posts as we cash in our trip chip points for family fun this summer! More more info see http://lays.ca/
Check out Brandsaver for some great coupons. While you are there signup for Brandsampler and receive some great samples! I just got my samples and I received floss, Crest advanced white strip, Pantene shampoo and conditioner, a razor, eye cream, Olay face cream and Downey.

We have a fun summer reading program at our local libraries sponsored by TD bank. They chose a different theme every year. We have participated in programs with an Indiana Jones theme, a "spy" theme and a LOL theme.
This year it is called Destination Jungle.
What our library does is the following:
-You read a book
-Go in and tell them about it
-Spin the prize wheel
-Play a game
They also receive bookmarks, stickers and little prizes for reading a certain number of books so they can set a goal. The tickets won at our library can be entered in a weekly prize draw. Usually a small toy, candy and a gift certificate. My kids like to save them up and enter them all in the grand prize draw. Last year I believe it was for a DS.
Along with the summer reading program there are library activities going on everyday such as:
"kidzone" games and activites
and various parties(Toy Story, Marmaduke,Ice Cream Party ect)
Another great thing about the library is that it has air conditioning! :o)

Some of you may or may not have heard of Scentsy since it is a product from the U.S.A. It is a newer product to Canada only becoming available to us at the end of 2009. I was introduced to Scentsy a little while back and absolutely fell in love with it!
What is Scentsy?
Scentsy is a "wickless candle" unit. It consists of a warming unit and highly scented wax. The warmer is safe because there is no flame and no soot. The wax is melted with a 25 watt light bulb and the wax is slightly above body temperature and will not burn you, your kids or your pets!
The wax comes in 80 wonderful scents and last 60-80 hours! Only 1 small square of wax is needed at a time so your wax bars last a long time. Room sprays and hanging freshers are also available. My favorite room spray is camu camu and I love the raspberry vanilla hanging freshener in my car right now!
Do you want free Scentsy products?
A great way to get free Scentsy products is to host a party. The products are so great they sell themselves! No long, drawn out presentation to sit through. Only a few minutes of your guests time is required to explain the product, the monthly specials and answer any questions.
Still want free Scentsy Products but don't want to host a party at your house?
You can have a basket party! These are small baskets with samples of all 80 scents(lip gloss container sized) order forms and catalogs. Once people smell these great products they sell themselves! Leave the basket on your desk at work, show your friends, relatives and neighbors and watch the sales add up.
~If you are hosting a party your party will be advertised on my site's home page. This way your friends and family can purchase and pay for items ordered from your party/basket party directly from my site.(no forms to fill out!)
Do you want to earn extra money? Just think every time you go to work you go to a party! The hours are totally flexible to fit in your schedule, sell a little or sell a lot. Never miss your children's school activities and sports because you have to work!

Contest ends Friday June 11th at midnight. I will contact the winner by email. Please be sure to leave a separate entry for each and make sure I can view your email to notify you if you win! Canada only.
As you know, I was invited to the Maple Leaf Roundtable discussion. It was at the new Thinkfood center in Mississauga. Leading the discussion were CEO Michael Mcain and Senior Vice President, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Sharon Beals.
The discussion was frank, honest and very informative. Yes, 22 people died from eating our products, this is how it happened and these are the 20 million dollar changes we have instilled to prevent it from happening again.
Some new measure in place are:
*Taking apart and cleaning all machines that they are able to.
* If they can't physically do this then the machines are wheeled into a room and basically baked. (listeria is killed by heat)
*If the machine can't be moved then a hot steam unit is placed under the machine and it is wrapped up to simulate a hot sauna
*A meeting takes place every morning at 8:30am to discuss the test results from all 26 ready to eat facilities
Did you know that in 2009 Maple Leaf did 125,000 tests in their plant? That averages out to 342 tests per day! With new testing technology in place Maple Leaf gets it's tests results back in 36-48hrs. Government standards are to get the test results back in 1 week.
What about the people who make my food? Maple Leaf is providing constant education. This includes impromptu line meetings between supervisors and employees and interactive training programs.
After our discussion we were served a lovely meal by Chef John Placko and his culinary team. It consisted of the Maple Leaf Prime chicken(dijon and herb) and the Maple Leaf Flattened chicken (wild garlic and herb) and Dempster's Oven Fresh Baguette
We also got to bring home a new Maple Leaf product, Natural Selections Deli meat. I had it yesterday for lunch and it was very good. The thing I like about this product is I know what all the ingredients are. I usually don't purchase deli meat because of all the ingredients I can't pronounce! I will definitely be purchasing some of this for our lunches. It was great on the Dempster's baguette with swiss, dijon and tomatoes.
