If you are a regular reader here you know that I also blog for General Mills over at LifeMadeDelicious.ca. My handle over there is "Frugal Mom".If you haven't before, go check it out! The recipe finder (aka The Dinnovator) is fabulous, I use it often when creating my weekly meal plan.
Today I'm going to talk about Cheerios and how they help your heart. Did you know that Cheerios cereal can help to lower your cholesterol?
(From Cheerios.ca) "Both original Cheerios* cereal and Honey Nut Cheerios* cereal contain beta-glucan, a soluble fibre in whole grain oats.
This is one specific type of fibre that has been shown in scientific research to help lower cholesterol.*
This oat fibre acts like a "sponge," soaking up some of the cholesterol in the body so that the body can get rid of it naturally.
Lowering cholesterol can lower the risk of clogged arteries and heart disease. It's nice when foods with good ingredients also taste good. This is just part of the wisdom in using whole grain oats."
Since having kids Cheerios have been a staple in our house. It was one of my daughter's first finger foods. I always carried a small container of Cheerios in my purse and diaper bag. Now that the kids are older they often pack Cheerios in their lunch for a recess snack. Honey nut and chocolate are their favourites.
Now that I know that Cheerios helps my heart I have a valid excuse for eating the kids honey nut Cheerios! I love when something that tastes so good also has health benefits.
