I'm Cheap, but not an Extreme Cheapskate

Yes, I'm cheap, frugal, penny-wise, whatever you want to call it.  I try to live by the saying,"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."

This is so true of my poor coffee maker.  We have a few coffee makers, an espresso maker I bought on clearance at Sears, a  Bosch Tassimo I got for free when attending an event back before I started this blog and a cheap Black & Decker coffee maker.

This is the pathetic story of my old Black and Decker.  We purchased this pot about 5 years ago at Canadian tire.  I think it was about $30.  A couple years ago the top of the pot snapped off.  I was checking the flyers and no coffee makers were on sale that week. Sooo... I kept using the pot, brewing it into a 4 cup glass measuring cup.

I was cleaning out the basement a few days later and found a glass coffee carafe from an old coffee pot.  I thought I would use it until I could find a coffee maker I liked on sale.  Two years came and went, same black coffee pot, same white glass carafe.  Then the sucker up and died on me this week!  I shouldn't have been shocked, I have been meaning to replace it for the past 2 years, but it was still working.  We definitely made it do and wore it out!

I pulled out the flyers and once again, none on sale.  Am I cursed?  Give me a break, I NEED coffee to function. Later that day I was out running a few errands and ran into Bed, Bath and Beyond to look for a clothes bin for my new laundry room.  As I was walking through the store I though I would check out the coffee makers but wasn't expecting to find anything in my price range.  Then I saw it!  Isn't it a beaut?
This was a marked down display unit.  Regular price $79.99 marked down to $39.97!  Here's the best part.  I just signed up on the BBB website and they sent me a 20% off coupon.  After taxes I paid $36.13.  Here's hoping I can get a good five years out of this one!  Pass the Baily's cream please :o)

  1. Wow, good for you! I know my old Black and Decker lasted FOREVER and then my sister broke the carafe while washing it... only fessed up after I noticed the crack. My Kitchenaid didn't fair so well, it lasted less than a year and was way more expensive. I hope I start finding some awesome deals like you in the future!
